  • Very early in the 60s a major contract was gained delivering freezers throughout the UK for TOTAL REFRIGERATION of HYDE who handled the ice cream freezer requirement for WALLS and the then LYONS MAID. Old St in Ashton-Under-Lyne was fast becoming inappropriate and could not house the fleet or provide enough storage space.

A site on Oldham Rd, Ashton-Under-Lyne (70,000 sq ft) was acquired. The site was 4 acres and now had adequate parking for the 40 vehicles.  The site was known as HADFIELD HOUSE and offered state of the art (1960s style) facilities. The business by the mid 60s was distributing twenty thousand plus freezers throughout the UK.

The business grew very significantly through the 60s and the fleet strength grew to 50 vehicles.

In 1968 Graham Hadfield was approached by the Oliver Rix Group who at that time owned a number of British Leyland Franchised garages around the UK. There was an unsuccessful name change to Olive Rix Transport but this was swiftly changed back as over 60 years of tradition could not be changed overnight.
